Derrick White, Celtics point guard, stated that a sum of $10 million (approximately €8.5 million) could make him give up his current number 9 jersey, after not giving it to Nikola Vucevic when he arrived in Boston following a trade from the Chicago Bulls.

On the podcast The White Noise, White revealed that his teammate didn’t actually ask for the number. “He mentioned something about it, but he didn’t actually say he wanted it. He mentioned that he wore number 4 on the national team and that he’d worn number 4 before. But yeah, it’s a little strange, because there aren’t many number nines in the league,” White commented.

“I don’t know. Nine is my favorite number, that’s one of the reasons. Also, when I see people wearing number 9 at the Garden and the gear is Nike, I think, ‘I know it’s because of me.’ There’s something special about that.” “And I know that if the number 9 kit is from Adidas, it’s Rondo,” observed Neemias Queta’s teammate.

“There’s something special about looking up and seeing all that. My fans know me as number 9. I mean, if there was a special reason for him to want number 9, maybe I’d consider it. But somehow I want to keep number 9. And if we look around here, there are a lot of nines,” he continued.

“I’m willing to trade it for 10 million dollars [€8.4M],” he concluded.
