Thierry Henry argues that the Belgian international “remains the most important player” for Manchester City.

Thierry Henry didn’t hold back on Wednesday in his praise for Kevin De Bruyne, the player who scored the (great) goal that sealed the 1-1 draw between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals.

After the final whistle at the Santiago Bernabéu, the former French international and current sports commentator for the American television station CBS Sports admitted that he had never seen a player with such a developed “brain” as this one, with whom he worked closely during his time with the Belgian national team.

“Today, he showed up, not just in passing the ball… I think he didn’t have a great game, but he scored an important goal. That’s why I make the distinction between the most valuable player and the most important player, and I think he remains the most important player on this team,” he stated.

“But I have to say that I’ve played against a lot of players… I’ve played with a lot of players and faced some of the best. I think Kevin’s brain is the best I’ve ever seen. I’m talking about the way he looks at the game,” he continued.

“Because his brain is all over the place, I don’t know what he’s thinking sometimes. You look at him and it’s almost like he’s not with us. He’s so good that sometimes it’s a problem because you’re not at his level. I think he’s the smartest player I’ve ever seen,” he concluded.
