The former NBA center, who filed for divorce, called the police again, this time to complain that Amber took advantage of a moment when he was busy with one of their five children to steal a number of personal items, his cell phone, and money.

Dwight Howard may have officially announced his retirement from basketball about a week ago to dedicate himself to his family, but that doesn’t mean he’s definitively left the courts. The turbulent personal life of the former NBA champion with the Lakers (2019/20), Dwight Howard, continues to make headlines, with the former center facing a double legal battle with his wife, Amber Rose Howard, and a custody dispute over his daughter with a former girlfriend.

On March 7th, the 40-year-old former basketball player contacted the Gwinnett County police, accusing Amber Rose of stealing several of his belongings. According to police body camera footage, Howard claimed that his wife took “all” of his belongings, including a quartz crystal necklace, a wedding ring, cell phones, and money that were in his car. The total value of the alleged theft amounts to nearly $20,000 (17,400 euros).

According to Howard’s statements, the incident occurred while he was preparing to leave with one of his children. “I went to pick up my son, and when I returned to the car, all my things were gone,” he stated. Among the missing items was also a bag containing his wallet, passport, driver’s license, social security card, and three credit cards.

This episode occurs in a context of great instability in the couple’s relationship. Amber Rose had filed for divorce last summer, but the two reconciled. However, just two days after the alleged robbery, on March 9th, Dwight, who played 18 seasons in the NBA and was an All-Star eight times, filed for divorce. This was followed by a similar request from Amber Rose on the same day, according to TMZ. The couple had married on January 11, 2025, and just last month were making plans for a long trip.

The situation was further complicated by the involvement of Howard’s ex-girlfriend, Tiffany Render. On March 16th, she requested an emergency restraining order to obtain custody of their 15-year-old daughter, Layla. In court documents, Render expressed “serious and immediate concerns” about the teenager’s well-being and safety.
