Lyon beat Grenoble, from the French second division, 2-1 at home today, securing a place in the semi-finals of the French Cup, in a game where the ‘law of the strongest’ prevailed.
With Portuguese international goalkeeper Anthony Lopes in goal, Lyon built a two-goal advantage in the first half, with Argentine world champion Nicolas Tagliafico providing assists for Barcola (24) and Jeffinho (38).
In the second half, Lyon eased off the gas and saw the visiting team gain momentum when, in the 74th minute, Amine Sbai scored, but the score remained unchanged until the end of the match and the top-division side secured their place in the semi-finals.
The remaining quarter-final matches, to be played on Wednesday, pit Marseille (who eliminated Paris Saint-Germain) against Annecy, Toulouse against Rodez, and Nantes against Lens.
