The Real Madrid forward spoke about the fight against racism after a striking episode involving Lamine Yamal. Vinícius Júnior was questioned about the chants of Spanish fans during Spain’s game against Egypt.
“Thousands of people chanted ‘Whoever doesn’t jump is a Muslim,’” during a game in which Lamine Yamal, who follows the Muslim religion, was on the field. The Real Madrid forward appealed for everyone to join in the fight against racism.
“It’s always a complicated topic to address. We continue this fight, it’s important that Lamine also speaks out, in order to help everyone because we are famous, we have money, but the poor, the black people who are everywhere, have a more difficult life, and we, the players, can do a lot. I’m not saying that Spain, Germany or Portugal are racist countries, but there are racists in those countries, in Brazil too, it’s like that. If we continue this fight together in the future, new players will be able to avoid these situations and above all, everyone else too,” he said this Monday at a press conference.
Among the many topics discussed a day before the duel with Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, Vini, who has a contract with Real until 2027, expressed his desire to renew his contract.
“I hope to stay for many years. We know what everyone wants and, at the right time, we will renew. I’m happy here and I want to stay here for many years,” he said.
Vinícius Júnior was also asked to discuss the different relationships he established with Xabi Alonso and Arbeloa, after the former Bayer Leverkusen coach was fired in January.
