The third round of the Jogabets League, which took place last weekend, was marked by big wins inflicted by three clubs that will compete in the 2023 Moçambola this season on teams that will play in the Maputo City Championship second division. Costa do Sol beat Desportivo Maputo 4-0, Black Bulls defeated Maxaquene 3-0, and Ferroviário de Maputo dispatched Liga Desportiva de Maputo 5-0.

As the start of the National Football Championship – Moçambola 2023 – approaches, the teams that have secured their place in this competition are fine-tuning their aim to be at the highest level at the start of the competition, which will have 12 clubs, meaning it will be short in terms of the number of rounds played.

And the Jogabets League – the Provincial Championship at the capital city level – has served as a pre-season training ground for the capital’s teams, with the four teams (Black Bulls, Costa do Sol, Ferroviário de Maputo, and Matchedje de Maputo) gradually gaining the desired competitive rhythm and defining their starting eleven for the start of the country’s biggest football competition.

BULLS DEFEAT TRICOLOR

In the opening match of the third round of the Jogabets League, Black Bulls faced the historic Maxaquene, who will play in the second division of the capital’s football league, with a squad made up of young players from their academy seeking to establish themselves. The dominance of the national runners-up was immediate, with the first goal being scored by Jesus after 21 minutes of play.

Still in the first half, the “bulls” extended their lead with a goal that had a touch of samba flair, as it was scored by Brasileiro in the 34th minute, making it 2-0 at halftime.

In the second half, Melque added his name to the scoresheet when, in the 62nd minute, he scored the third goal, sealing Black Bulls’ 3-0 victory over a Maxaquene side with no arguments to counter the dominance of the team coached by the Portuguese Hugo Martins.

CANARINS FLY HIGHER THAN THE EAGLES

Playing at home, Costa do Sol had no difficulty overcoming Desportivo Maputo, in a match that no longer has the same impact as it once did when it was a derby of the capital city, as the two teams are pursuing different objectives this season.
